Saturation Step Two - The Tape Machine
The second and final saturation step is the tape saturation. It can sound pretty similar to tube saturation - at least in the plugin world. I like to use two different saturation plugins because one plugin with extreme settings usually doesn't sound good. Two different types of saturation with lighter settings sounds more natural.
You can find lots of different tape saturation plugins and my advice is to try out the simplest looking ones first. If the plugin has lots of controls, it's usually pretty hard to set up (unless it has great presets!). Trying the different presets will usually give a good impression of the plugin. Another important thing is to try the maximum saturation settings of the plugin. It will usually reveal the true nature and characteristics.
