Things to Do Before the Recording
Sampling the Drumkit
After you have found the sound you are after and the drums are still in perfect tuning, sample the kit. Record at least 20 hits of each drum with left and right hand hits. Hard hits are the most important ones, so focus on them. Don't forget the kick drum. You may need these hits in the mixing phase. It takes only ten minutes of your time. You can also use them as reference when you check the tuning between songs. You can also sample the cymbals if you like.
Post the samples to an online forum for others' enjoyment!
